A bit of history...

In fall of 1989, Bill Billings approached the Worship COmmittee and Administrative Board with the idea of making a gift to the church in honor of his children, Christine and Billy.

During the Christmas season that year, the Kalamazoo Ringers presented a concert at the Regent Theatre. We were very impressed with the enthusiastic music expressed by these instruments. Through a series of events, we were put in touch with Janet VanValey who, with the sound of the bells, convinced the Ad Board of their worth adn magic. The rest is history.

The Billings and the Godwins gifts purchased our initial three octaves of bells, tables, foam, notebooks, music and gloves.

In the fall of 1990 ringers were recruited to join and practice for sharing music during the Christmas season. Since then many memorial gifts have allowed us to purchase additional octaves, instruments and supplies. Billings helped us to acquire a fourth octave of bells and the choir chimes. The Denny Sturgis family gifted our fifth octave of choir chimes, tables and covers in memory of William Sturgis.

We have had two active bell choirs for 17 years. We now have more than 50 ringers of all ages and musical backgrounds participating.

Neven Rininger was one of our founding ringers in the choir. He rang from 1990-1999. The fifth and last octave of bells was dedicated in loving memory of Neven.
